Laurindo Almeida belongs to an elite group of Brazilian/American guitarists,  who by composing important works for the guitar reinstated the instrument in his native country as worthy of serious musical study.

Contents:

*  Vistas de Los Angeles (Note:  This work was later arranged for guitar quartet and quintet and is called “Los Angeles Aquarelle Suite.”  In the quartet and quintet versions,  the fourth movement,  “San Juan Capistrano Mission,”  is entitled “San Fernando Mission”.  Movements 1,  2,  5,  and 6 should be played in a jazz swing rhythm.  In the second movement, “Sunset Boulevard,” at rehearsal letters D and E,  Guitar I has the indication ad lib solo.  This solo is written out by Laurindo and is found in the quartet version).
